The Good Days

What has happened in our country?

I remember back in the good old days when I was in high school in Grand Prairie, Texas all my buddies and I had guns and no one ever even thought of shooting up a school.  Some of my friends who had pickups with gun racks in the windows actually had long guns in said racks.  They parked those vehicles in the parking lot of the school and we would have discussions out in the parking lot before and after school about what kinds of guns we owned and the hunting adventures we had been on with those particular weapons.  Heck, the assistant principal would join in on some of those discussions and show us his guns too.

I remember when we would have a disagreement with someone, and it got violent enough, we had fist fights.  When they were over, we more-often-than-not were good friends after the fight was over.

Of course, back then we didn’t have video games in our bedrooms with first-person shoot ’em ups such as Grand Theft Auto that rewarded the player for being a thug.  We usually went somewhere OUTSIDE and played with our friends until the street lights came on.  Yeah, we would play Cops and Robbers, Cowboys and Indians, World War Two or Star Wars with toy guns, but no one ever considered using a real gun to shoot someone.  All my friends knew one another’s parents.  All our parents knew one another.

I ask again, what has happened in our country?
