Y’all may remember my post on Mothers’ Day about my Mom being a sizeable reason I write Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Well, my Dad is another BIG reason I write in that genre. When he and his brothers were young boys in the small town of Baird, Texas, that town had a one-screen movie theater. They would save up their money from the odd jobs they would work and buy tickets to go watch Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers films.
My Dad turned me onto those two characters at a young age and when Battlestar Galactica, the 1980 version of Flash Gordon, and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century came to our TV screen he would watch those programs with me. He was a big fan of Han Solo in Star Wars. So there is the other person to blame for my choice in how I choose to put pen to paper, so to speak.
Happy Father’s Day to all the great Dads out there!
